Did nothing for me.
I recently tried mucinex for chest congestion I was experiencing. At night I'd cough until I gaged but a little expectorant before bed and in the morning and I'd be fine all day. I'd been taking the $4.00 name brand cold med. from the drug store and it was working fine, but my husband wanted to help so he bought this stuff (we paid $15 for 14 pills!!!). He figured it was so expensive it had to help me get over my cough.
Not only did it do nothing for my cough all night, but by morning my chest was so congested that I was coughing all day too which hadn't been a problem. Plus, I had to wait 12 hours to take something that would work!
The other reviewers seem to be using it for chronic problems more than temporary colds so maybe over the long term it does more. But for my minor head cold it did nothing.

eases some asthma problems
I went to my doctor with a cloggy throat (mucus)and my usual moderate asthma problems. She suggested trying Mucinex regular (not D). It has actually been a big help for me, though I never travel without a rescue inhaler and definitely need stronger asthma meds in allergy season. MUCINEX IS A HELP but NOT a cure.

Keeps the crap out!
I use this everyday, all year long. I have lung problems due to an illness that I inherited, and this really helps. It was recommended by an ear, nose, and throat doctor along the time it came out. The last place I ordered it from was a seller through Amazon, DAB Nutrition; the price could not be beat.
If you have any kind of lung or breathing problem(s), give this a try; it does what it says, is easy to swallow(and I have problems swallowing pills), and does not interfere with any of my many medications. You WILL notice a difference.

Mucinex Is a Must for Sinus Sufferers!
Being a long-time sinus sufferer, I found the benefits of guiafenesin years before it became "MUCINEX". Without it, my sinuses get plugged and irritated within a few days, setting me up for recurrent infections. It works as an "expectorant" which means it helps keep the mucus thinned so your sinuses can clear more easily and don't become a breeding ground for bacteria and /or viruses.
As a clinic-based, practicing RN, I know that Mucinex / guiafenesin is often recommended by physicians, and is a safe product with very few side effects or drug interactions. (NO, I'm not getting paid by anyone to say any of this!)
Mucinex in this Extended Release formula minimizes the number of daily doses down to once or twice daily depending on your personal needs. This 100 tablet bottle is definitely the cheapest way to purchase - I had been getting it at WalMart for the past few years (until my smart sister told me to check for it on Amazon :-) in the 40 tablet bottles for almost $20 per bottle!
If you have sinus problems, especially chronic ones, or are prone to recurring infections, Mucinex is certainly worth a try.
