I've tried various types of nicotine gum for quitting, and the coated Nicorette Fresh Mint variety seems less effective than the non-coated types. I think this is because the strong mint taste masks the "tingling" of nicotine, so you have fewer cues as to when to chew and when to "park" the gum. I recommend a different non-coated gum type, even though this kind tastes better. You want to be able to easily tell when nicotine is being released, so you can judge when to chew and when to put the gum in your cheek. if you find that nicorette is effective as a cessation aid, the fresh mint gum is a great product. better flavor and smoother texture. this is the same product sold in stores available for a much cheaper price through amazon. look no further.

sidenote: some people find the patch works better for them. it varies. amazon also sells the patch for cheaper.

I had tried to quit for 2 years using cold turkey, the lozenges, and patches at different times. Each time, I went back to smoking. Nicorette gum is the only thing that took away the cravings and helped me quit for good. My tips may not work for everyone but they worked for me.

I first started with the 2mg as I smoked a pack or under a pack a day. Didn't take away the cravings unless I chewed gum almost constantly. I switched to the 4mg and it worked. I really think the 2mg is for very very light smokers.
